Warmwaterberg Spa - Mineral hot spring situated between Barrydale and Ladismith on Route 62, offers accommodation, restaurant, conferencing & wedding venue
Warmwaterberg Spa is set on a 600Ha property between Barrydale & Ladismith on the famous Route 62. Warmwaterberg Spa offers self-catering accommodation for those who wish to do-it-themselves, but also has a full-service licenced restaurant, bar and off-sales for those who want to indulge. A small kiosk supplies basic necessities, including braai-wood and ice alongside a selection of groceries.
The main attraction is our unique hot water spring (44°C at the source). It is very high in iron content, making it extremely healthy and sweet-tasting. Many visitors claim to experience a soothing and calming effect after bathing in the water, which is completely untreated and fresh from the artesian spring. In addition to the two hot pools, there is a cold pool and a number of roman baths (imagine “bath” for up to six people!) on the property. Think of it this way: at the kiosk you will pay a small amount for 500ml of bottled mineral water. Here you can step into a freshly-tapped roman bath containing 1000 litres of (many say superior) mineral water and bath in it! Try some of our specially-formulated bath salts to further enhance the experience.
Accommodation
THE HISTORIC BATH HOUSES
The Historic Bath House units have 2 bedrooms, one double bed and two single beds. By far our most popular units, the original Bath Houses were built in 1886 as the very first development on the site. They started as six separate rooms (each with bed and bath) but have now been turned into two 2-bedroom apartments. Each apartment has a bath in each room (or the kitchen – funky!), a kitchen with fireplace and private toilet. These units have been sensitively refurbished recently, but retain all their 130-year-old charm.
Studio units with King size bed, custom built luxurious bath and in door braai/fireplace. The new Studio Bath House units are modern day tributes to the Historic Bath Houses. Built in the same idiom, but as studios for two people these units are suitable for couples looking for rest and relaxation. Completed in 2015 these units have all fully bifolding front doors which give incredible indoor outdoor flow providing a perfect place to enjoy the Karoo environment.
THE MAIN HOUSE / SANATORIUM
Built in 1908, this building typifies the architecture of the time, and in many respects mirrors the style of the early 20th century Karoo Victorian “ostrich” house. There are 6 units, each with a bedroom and kitchenette, sleeping two in a double bed and two in bunk beds (kids only).
Each unit in the house has a private bathroom with a sumptuous walk-in roman bath, shower and toilet. The house is over 100 years old and unspoiled by modernisation or alteration. It is still as it was, and we are proud to keep it that way.
TIMBER CHALETS
There are 14 chalets in configurations of one, two, or three bedrooms. These configurations translate to two adults sharing a double bed plus two kids in bunk beds in the smallest one-bedroom unit, to six adults in double and single beds with two kids in bunks in the largest three-bedroom unit. Each unit has a kitchen, private bathroom and outside braai facilities. They are rustic and simple but offer basic clean accommodation for budget-conscious visitors in a beautiful setting.
CAMPING
We have 25 sites suitable for camping and caravanning, also permanent caravans that are built into the natural environment of the spa and can sleep between two and four people.
